Barks & Recreation 2024 Press Release

Saving Grace Pet Adoption Center Presents

The 3rd Annual Barks & Recreation Event

A Dog-Friendly Fundraising Event to Be Held in Stewart Park on Saturday, May 18th

Roseburg, OR – May 13th, 2024— Saving Grace Pet Adoption Center will host the third annual Barks & Recreation event in Stewart Park on May 18th from 11 am to 3 pm. This event is designed to celebrate the human-canine family bond with fun dog-related activities and raise funds for Saving Grace programs. The event is free to attend and well-behaved dogs on leash are very welcome.

“Saving Grace is extremely excited to be able to host Barks and Recreation as a fun, family-friendly event for all dog-lovers.  Dogs not only bring tremendous joy to their families, but a sense of purpose, well-being and are a great incentive to exercise.  We will have a variety of activities for the dogs and their human best friends.” says Jennifer Barta, Executive Director of Saving Grace Pet Adoption Center. “This event is also a great opportunity to raise awareness and funds for the programs Saving Grace offers to the Douglas County community.”

Barks & Recreation will feature something for everyone! Sponsored by First Community Credit Union, the event includes over 30 pet friendly vendors, dog activities (such as pup-cups and bobbing for hot dogs), a wine & beer garden, kid’s activities, reduced-cost vaccinations and microchips for dogs, and food carts. Saving Grace will also bring several dogs available for adoption. So come down to Stewart Park to meet your next best friend!

An Alumni Walk for dogs previously adopted from Saving Grace Pet Adoption Center, will start at 11 am at the Half Shell, with a free bandana. Doggie Contests will run from 11:45 to 1:15, including Best Trick, Best Costume, Owner-Dog Lookalike, and a Peanut Butter Eating contest that you will not want to miss! (Contest registration is open now on the Saving Grace website.)  The event will also feature live music by Kyra Van Winkle from 1:30 pm to 3 pm.

In addition, Saving Grace has partnered with CHI Mercy Health to kick off the morning at 9:30, before the main event, with a 3 mile “Walk with a Doc” stroll. Participants are encouraged to enjoy a healthy walk with their dog, starting at the Stewart Park train, while they learn more about the benefits of having a dog as part of their family. Dogs are a terrific way to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of walking outdoors.

Do not miss out! Come down to Stewart Park on Saturday May 18th, at 9:30 for the Walk with a Doc, and from 11 am to 3 pm for the main event!
